Glyndebourne - A Visual History

A book celebrating 75 years of The Glyndebourne Festival Opera. I have just over 100 images in it. Its a very good read, with nice snaps from the likes of Cartier Bresson, Cornel Cappa, Jane Bown, George Rodger, Angus McBean and Guy Gravett.

Extract from 'Photographers at Glyndebourne' - Val Williams

"In what is probably the most comprehensive and varied picture of the organisation in all its many facets, Hoban has produced a chronicle of Glyndebourne with enormous dedication and energy"

"Hoban has approached the mighty spectacle with both the austere sensibility of the documentarist and the stylistic mindset of the Theatre Photographer, always trying to preserve an intimacy elusive on the Glyndebourne sets".

Available from www.glyndebourne.com

Appointed custodian of the Guy Gravett Archive

Appointed custodian of the Guy Gravett Archive

I have been appointed the custodian of the Guy Gravett archive. Having spent nearly 10 years discussing the future of the archive with Guys family, I have now taken responsibility for the long term preservation of the collection. Guy Gravett was the appointed Photographer to The Glyndebourne Festival Opera from 1951 until 1995. He passed away in 1996, after which I succeeded him as the appointed house Photographer.

I have set up a website - www.guygravett.com to showcase his best material, it is being added to all the time. The whole collection, of around 500,00 images, currently being digitised and re-housed in museum quality storeage, is available for commercial and editorial uses, through myself and The ArenaPAL photo agency.

This image is of Guy, photographed in Lewes Priory 1956.
